  2. Kilauea is a shield volcano because it resembles mostly of a shield the way it is shaped. Kilauea has gentle lava flow when it erupts. the volcano is located in the state of Hawaii. Kilauea's area is 1,430 km which is 552 miles long and 13.7% of Hawaii is the volcano Kilauea. Kilauea's exact location in latitude and longitude is 19.425 N , 155.292 W. Kilauea has been continuously erupting since January 1983. almost everyday it will erupt, and it could even erupt more then one time a day. Kilauea is the worlds most active volcano. since Kilauea has been erupting almost once a day or even more then once a day, Kilauea has caused serious damage but has never caused any deaths. the current status for today is that it is still erupting continuously, and as of right now doesn't seem to be showing signs of having a major eruption, but is still on continuous watch.

  3. Rising gradually to more than 4 km above sea level, Mauna Loa is the largest volcano on our planet. Its long submarine flanks descend to the sea floor an additional 5 km, and the sea floor in turn is depressed by Mauna Loa's great mass another 8 km. This makes the volcano's summit about 17 km (56,000 ft) above its base! The enormous volcano covers half of the Island of Hawai`i and by itself amounts to about 85 percent of all the other Hawaiian Islands combined. Mauna Loa is among Earth's most active volcanoes, having erupted 33 times since its first well-documented historical eruption in 1843. Its most recent eruption was in 1984. Mauna Loa is certain to erupt again, and we carefully monitor the volcano for signs of unrest. The Hawaiian name "Mauna Loa" means "Long Mountain." It's location is 19.475 N 155.608 W in Island of Hawaii. The area of the volcano is 2,035 mi squared, it is also a active shield volcano.Lava eruptions from Mauna Loa are silica-poor, and very fluid; eruptions tend to be non-explosive and the volcano has relatively shallow slopes. Last erupted from March 24, 1984, to April 15, 1984. During that 3-week-long eruption, rivers of lava came within 4 miles of the outskirts of the coastal city of Hilo and paved 16 square miles of land with lava in just 3 weeks. $62 million dollars in property damage was assessed from the eruption Mauna Loa is currently continuing to inflate with magma, as it has since 1984. The level of seismic activity has not yet begun to increase as it did preceding both the 1975 and 1984 eruptions. The low level of seismic activity suggests that the next eruption is unlikely to occur within the next year. On the other hand, the rate and amount of magma accumulation beneath the summit suggests that the next eruption is still likely within the next five years.

  4. Mount St. Helens is an active stratovolcano and is currently classified as the second most dangerous volcano in the United States. During eruptions, the type of flow varies from debris avalanches, large –scale magma pyroclastic flow, large plumes of volcanic ash and steam, and the occasional flow of slowly moving hot lava. Mount St. Helens in located in Skamania County, Washington on the Pacific Coast of the United States and is also part of the volcano ring of fire. This volcanic monster measures about 6 miles (9.7 km) across the base and approximately 8,365 feet in elevation. The exact latitude and longitude measurements of this volcano are 46.2 N and 122.18 W. The last eruption took place from September 23, 2004-July 10, 2008 and did not exert any severe effects. This eruption was continual with a gradual extrusion of magma. It produced several small earthquakes and over time developed a new lava dome throughout the duration of the eruption. The eruption that made the history books, though, was the eruption that shook Washington State on May 18, 1980. The effects of this eruption were severe. More than 1.5 million metric tons of sulfur dioxide was released into the atmosphere and the eruption was rated a five. 57 people were killed along with 7,000 big game animals and around twelve million fish from a hatchery. Approximately 200 homes were damaged from this violent eruption. The current status of Mount St. Helens is that it is at a normal alert level and is watched very closely. It is still considered an active volcano, but it is not erupting currently.

  5. Mount Griggs is a stratovolcano with no eruptions recorded. Griggs is located in the state of Alaska with an area of 25km. Located at approximately 58.3572° N and 155.1037° W. The last eruption for Griggs is currently unknown as there has never been a record of any. There is currently no activity at Griggs except for vigorously active fumaroles (holes in the planet that produce steam and gases).

  7. Dear Mrs Moss this is the second blog i've done. (: Twin Buttes are cinder cone volcanoes. These volcanoes have a partially unegetated
    lava flow during eruption. This just means that during eruption the melted magma that has reached the surface stays a liquid and it doesn't spray into smaller fragments. These volcanoes are located in Shasta County...in California! The area of the actual
    "Twin Buttes Resoivor" is 14.19 sq. miles, however the elevation is 1,631 miles. The
    latitude is 440.777°N and the longitude is 121.591°W. The last known eruption occured in the "Holocene age" in 1989. These volcanoes haven't erupted to the extent that
    anyone noticed or any property was damaged. These volcanoes are currently just
    chilling like sitting around they're not doing much and they haven't been very active. Have a good day everyone goodbye i am gone.

  8. The volcano I chose to do is Hualalai, which is in Hawaii. It is the third most active volcano in that state. The coordinates of this particular volcano is 19.6922° north and 155.8672° west. The area of Hualalai is 290 mi2 (or 751 km2). It is a dormant shield volcano. The flow of the lava during an eruption is called trachyte. This is when the lava moves pretty slow; rather than fast. It has this type of flow because of the volcano’s silicon composition. The last time that Hualalai erupted was in 1801. I couldn’t find any particular damage or anything from the last eruption but I’m sure it included both deaths and property damage. Even though it hasn’t erupted in such a long time, it is still considered as an active volcano. There were earthquakes in 1929 that made magma come up some. The people who are studying this volcano think it is going to erupt in the next one hundred years. This will cause a lot of damage because there are a few resorts in Hualalai’s area. It won’t erupt anytime too soon though because there haven’t been recent reports of any earthquakes in that general area.

From Wood and Kienle (1990): "Falling Mountain and Mount Cerberus are the twin domes of pyroxene dacite (64% SiO2) that frame the entrance to Katmai Pass.They are similar in volume (each 0.25 cubic km), composition, lithology, and weathering. Although undated, they are thought to be of early Holocene age because their carapaces are degraded but not significantly glaciated.Together with the rhyolitic Novaruptadome, they define a 3-km-long line parallel to, but 4 km behind, the volcanic front."

  12. Crater lake is a caldera volcano. Its latitude is 42.94° north while its longitude is 122.11° west. It is located in Oregon. The last eruption is estimated to be 4,000 years ago when a small lava dome erupted under water, there was no reported damage. Crater Lake was formed by a massive stratovolcano known as Mount Mazama. Right now crater lake is remaining quiet. Its Area is 20.6 sq miles. It has a Plinian eruption.

  13. Yellow Stone is located in Wyoming but also stretches into Montana and Idaho, and it is also a Super Volcano due to the immense eruption it’s capable of. Its flow spreads all of Yellow Stone National Park. Its area covers a 25- by 37-mile and its latitude is 44.43 N and longitude is 110.67 W. The last time Yellow Stone erupted was 640,000 years ago and sent an estimated 1,000 cubic kilometers of ash and volcanic rock over the American west and parts of the Midwest, spreading as far south as Mexico and covered the sun for weeks, making the temperatures drop and crops started to wither. So far Yellow Stone has a Normal status, but many fear that the super volcano will soon erupt and cover they sky in ash.

  15. Diamond Craters is a volcanic field, located in Oregon. The area of the volcanic fields is sixty square kilometers. The latitude of Diamond Craters is 43.10 degrees North, and the longitude is 118.75 degrees West. The last eruption was 1,000 years ago. Because the last eruption was so long ago, the effects of it were unknown. Diamond Craters has a basaltic lava flow, and it is currently dormant.

  16. The volcano Asuncion is an asymmetrical stratovolcano. The type of flow the Asuncion volcano has during its eruption is a downward flow towards the western and south eastern side. The volcano is on the Mariana Islands in the U.S. The area of the volcano is seven square kilometers. The latitude of the Asuncion Volcano is 19.671°N or 19°40'15"N. The longitude is 145.406°E or 145°24'20"E. The last eruption was in 1906 and the only damage was a black scar from the lava down the side. The current status of the volcano is inactive.

  17. The volcano I picked was Akutan Peak, it is a Stratovolcano with caldera. Eruptions at Akutan volcano are typically moderately explosive, short-duration, and Stromolian, lasting for a few weeks. Hazards at the volcano include ash clouds, ash fall, volcanic bombs, pyroclastic flows, lahars, lava flows, and debris avalanches. Akutan is located in Alaska. The Latitude of this volcano is 54.13308° N and the longitude is 165.98555° W. The area of Akutan is 18.9 sq miles (48.95 km²). The last eruption of Akutan was in 1992,there was no damage but, people did feel earthquakes that didn't cause much damage. The current status of Akutan is the volcano has shown no signs of activity of the time.

  18. Cinnamon Butte is a forested cinder cone. Its lava flows appear to be unglaciated and pass through gaps of late-Pleistocene moraines. This volcano is located in Oregon (USA) and is elevated at 6,427 ft. Its latitude is 43.241°N and longitude is 122.108°W. The last known eruption is unknown but dates go back to 6,845 years ago. All of the vents are older than approximately 6,845 years as they are all covered in ash from the eruption of Mount Mazama. Since the last eruption is unknown, there are no records of deaths, property damage, etc. Cinnamon Butte's current status is Holocene.

  19. Fisher Caldera is known as Fisher. Fisher is 11 km wide by 18 km long, and has a maximum internal relief of 929 m. Fisher has a structure of post-caldera domes and lava and pyroclastic flows. The most recent eruption was in August of 1830. Fisher is located in the Aleutian arc in Alaska. Located exactly at Latitude: 54.6692° N and Longitude: 164.3524° W. The last eruption was 9372 years ago, and produced drastic pumice fall, a drastic pyroclastic flow to the south, and a mixed composition pyroclastic flow to the north. “Post-caldera eruptions includes the formation and partial collapse of Turquoise Cone, and the development of other mono- and polygenetic vents both inside and outside the caldera.” The current activity at Fisher is hydrothermal.

  20. The diamond crater is a volcanic field located in Oregon, USA. The diamond crater flow type is a basaltic lava flow, and has an area of 60 sq km. Its latitude is 43.10*N 43 degrees 6'0"N, and a longitude 118.75 degrees W 118 degrees45'0"W. Even though the effects of its last eruption is unknown, the last eruption occured 5450 BC. The curent status is Tephrochronolgy

Little sitkn is a Stratovolcano with nested calderas.It was also the second stratovolcano that was constructed almost entirely of lava flows within Caldera One and attained a height of about 900m. Little Sitkin is located in the Rat Islands archipelago of the Western Aleutian Islands, Alaska. This active stratovolcano rises 1188 m (3898 ft) in the center-northeastern part of the island. Little Sitkins longitude is 178.5356° E and its latitude is 51.9531° N. Its last eruption occurred in 1828 (Kay, in Wood and Kienle 1990),issued from the central cone within the younger caldera and from a vent on the west flank outside the older caldera.Even now, presently Little Sitkin is known as it forming a small island of the same name in the western Aleutians Islands and belongs to the Aleutian Island National Wildlife Refuge.

  22. Not Agrigan*, I'm doing Amboy. Amboy is a cinder cone and monogenetic volcano field. It erupted about 10,000 years ago. Its most recent eruption had mafic cinder cones and lava flows of apparent Holocene age. Amboy is located in western California, and it covers about 70 square kilometers. Its latitude is 34.55 N, and longitude is 115.78 W. Its last eruption was about 10,000 years ago. Its eruption did not cause much damage, at least as we know, because it was around 10,000 years ago. As of now, it is a tourist site, and poses no potential threat to the people who live near it.

  23. Blue Lake Crater is a Maar volcano of a series of at least 3 overlapping explosion craters, and is located in Oregon. Its latitude is 44.411°N, and longitude is 121.774°W. The volcano status is radiocarbon, and is at an elevation of 4,035 feet. The last eruption was in 680 AD +/- 200 years. The eruption created an elongated, steep-walled crater with a low rim that rises about 50 m above adjacent topography. The crater is now filled by the 0.3 x 0.8 km wide Blue Lake, immediately west of the popular recreation area of glacial moraine dammed Suttle Lake. A chain of spatter cones 6 km to the SSW and about 4 km NE of Mount Washington aligned with Blue Lake crater.

  24. Mount Rainier is a stratovolcano located in the state of Washington. It has a pyroclastic flow which means that when lava flow breaks apart it forms an avalanche of hot rock and gas that melts snow and ice. The area of this volcano is 2,128 square miles and its coordinates are 46.8533 degrees North and 121.7599 degrees West. Its last eruption was around 1894 but there is no record of the damage that it caused. Right now Mount Rainier is considered to be an 'episodically active' volcano meaning that it will erupt sometime in the future even if it doesn't seem like it's doing much right now.

  26. The name is Frosty Peak. It is a Stratovolcano. It has had no known eruptions so it doesn't have a specific flow. Frosty Peak is located in Alaska. It's area is about 100 square km. The volcano's coordinates is 55.0673° N latitude and its longitude is 162.8354° W. Frosty Peak has had no known eruptions. It's status is inactive.

  28. I am researching the volcano referred to St. Michael. The St. Michael volcanic field is a volcanic field located on St. Michael and Stuart Islands. St. Michael is a shield volcano. It is located in the state of Alaska.Its latitude is 63.4500, longitude is -162.12. It is 230 square miles. St. Michaels last eruption is undated, but probable Holocene eruption. The last eruption is unknown, therfore we dont know the effects of the last eruption.

  29. Mount Dana is a small calc-alkaline volcanic center consisting largely of volcaniclastic debris surrounding a central dome or domes, reminiscent of Augustine volcano. The volcano rests on relatively undeformed Jurassic and Cretaceous marine sandstone and shale. Mount Dana is a Dome complex volcano or Stratovolcano , its located in Alaska, Alaska Peninsula. The area of the volcano is Elevation: 4442 ft (1354 m), Latitude: 55.64205° N, Longitude: 161.21551° W. Last known eruption was in 1890 BC. Because the last eruption was very far back in time that there are no records of any deaths, property damage, and etc. Mount Dana is an inactive volcano as of now.

  30. Prior to 1980, Mount St. Helens had the shape of a conical, youthful volcano sometimes referred to as the Mount Fuji of America. During the 1980 eruption the upper 400 m (1,300 ft) of the summit was removed by a huge debris avalanche, leaving a 2 x 3.5 km (1.2 x 2.2 mi) horseshoe-shaped crater now partially filled by a lava dome and a glacier. It is primarily an explosive dacite volcano with a complex magmatic system.

    Mount St. Helens was formed during four eruptive stages beginning about 275,000 years ago and has been the most active volcano in the Cascade Range during the Holocene. Prior to about 12,800 years ago, tephra, lava domes, and pyroclastic flows were erupted, forming the older St. Helens edifice, but a few lava flows extended beyond the base of the volcano. The bulk of the modern edifice (above the 1980 crater floor) was constructed during the last 3,000 years, when the volcano erupted a wide variety of products from summit and flank vents. Historical eruptions in the 19th century originated from the Goat Rocks area on the north flank, and were witnessed by early settlers. New unpublished data on the timing for Mount St. Helens eruptive activity have been analyzed, which improves some of the eruption dates cited in published literature.

The Eagle Lake volcanic field occupies the junction of the Cascades, Sierra Nevada, and Basin and Range geologic provinces and consists of 15 cinder cones and basaltic lava flow vents within a larger Quaternary basaltic field. The vents are aligned along faults defining the Eagle Lake volcano-tectonic depression, and are the southernmost example of late Quaternary back-arc spreading in the northwestern Great Basin. The latest long-lived eruptive period has been roughly estimated to have occurred about 50,000-100,000 years before present (Grose, in Wood and Kienle 1990). Miller (1989) mapped four Holocene centers in the Eagle Lake volcanic field.

  32. Mauna Kea is a shield volcano, which is located on the big island of Hawaii. A shield volcano is a large volcano built almost entirely of fluid lava flows. It has broad sloping sides and is usually surrounded by small gentle sloping hills, in a circular or fan shaped pattern. Mauna Kea has a very slow lava flow and has very little magma compared to other surrounding volcanos. It can be recognized as Hawaii's tallest mountain. Its area is about 2,380 km which is about 920 miles. This monstrous volcano takes up about 22.8% of Hawaii's island. The longitude of Mauna Kea is 155.4683 where the latitude is about 19.8210. Since it erupted 4,500 years ago no one really knows what kind of damage was really done by this volcano. Mauna Kea is dormant but astronomical telescopes have detected ground tilts. These tilts may foretell a future eruption.

  33. The Yunaska volcano is located on Yunaska Island(located in Alaska), which is where it inherits the name. It is a shield stratovolcano featuring a caldera and a lava field and is associated with some stratovolcanoes. The island it resorts on has an area of 290 sq km and is located the the latitude of 52.64 and a longitude of 170.65. It's last eruption was on November 2nd, 1937. The number of casualties and amount of damage done by it's eruption has not been recorded. It's status has been classified as Historical due to it's lack of activity after last eruption.

    Summary:
    The Supply Reef is a conical submarine volcano in the northern Mariana Islands that rises to within 8 m of the sea surface. The andesitic seamount lies about 10 km NW of the Maug Islands, the emergent summit of a submarine volcano that is joined to Supply Reef by a low saddle. Supply Reef was mapped as Quaternary living corals on the crater rim suggest that the volcano is either dormant or extinct.Several submarine eruptions have been detected by sonar signals originating from points very approximately located at distances of 15 to 25 kilometers NW of Supply Reef.

Ruby, a basaltic submarine volcano that rises to within 230 m of the sea surface near the southern end of the Mariana arc NW of Saipan, was detected in eruption in 1966 by sonar signals (Norris and Johnson, 1969). In 1995 submarine explosions were heard, accompanied by a fish kill, sulfurous odors, bubbling water, and the detection of volcanic tremor.

  36. Lo'ihi is a submarine flow volcano. It is in Hawaii and Pacific Ocean. The volcano type is Shield volcano. The area is 1277 m (4,190 ft). The latitude and longitude is 19.43°N / -155.29°W.
    The most current eruption was in July-August of 1996. Their were no stated effects and the current status has not changed.

  37. The Black Peak volcano is a Stratovolcano and lava domes. The flows, domes, and volcaniclastic rocks that make up the pre-caldera cone range in composition from andesite to dacite. Dacitic ash-flow tuffs and coarse block-and-ash flows fill the Bluff and Ash Creek valleys to as much as 100 m on the north and west sides of the volcano. The pyroclastic flows that deposited these tuffs had limited distribution and appear to have been relatively sluggish; they also appear to have had a large air-fall component, judging from the crude stratification in the ash-flow tuff.Black Peak Volcano is located 45 km south of Port Heiden, Alaska. The Latitude of the Black Peak volcano is 56.5512 degrees N. The Longitude of the Black Peak volcano is 158.787 degrees W. The last eruption was in the 1900s. Could not find the effects of the last eruption. I do not know the current status.
